The Crash Reality Sometimes Is

I have not written lately. Here it is almost the end of January and my posts of have been few. I think reality has set in. Moving this time held a bit of glamor for me. The house is just a 1970's dream and I LOVE it. The field across the road feeds my soul and the birds in our back yard are so sweet. However, and often there is that however isn't there...my family has been ill since our moving day which was December 10th. The night we moved here my daughter vomited and since then every couple days someone has been struck with something without a break. We were all well enough for Christmas day which was perfect but other than that it is January 25th and my oldest is sick again, or still sick, as she has really been sick since September.
So sickness slowly started to drag me down THEN the renovations. Oh My WORD! I had no idea how much living in a house under renovation would bother me! However if you are sensitive to loud noises and strong smells and have anxiety then living in a construction zone is not for you and it isn't for me, BUT here I am. So sick children, construction zone and I could go on but why bother.
The weather here has cleared up some and the other day it felt like Spring and I decided then and there that Spring was my favorite season. It is just hopeful, warm, bright and beautiful and it is coming. I am glad I live in a place where Spring DOES come and that it comes early. I am excited for it. I have loved our cold snowy winter but I feel like as soon as we can get more Vitamin D and warmth maybe everyone will be able to shake the flues and colds and stress levels will ease. I hope.

Have a lovely day

I am making an apple crisp today. I have not felt up to baking for weeks so this is a pretty big deal ~

It is the easiest thing if you wanted to make one as well

Preheat over to 350 degrees
Peel and cut up eight apples (Use a sweeter type of apple like golden delicious since there is no sugar in the apple mix) and throw in a couple handfuls of blueberries if you want.
Into that bowl with the apples squeeze half a lemon, throw in a tablespoon of flour and cinnamon then pour into a greased 9 by 13 pan
In the same bowl throw one and a half cups of flour
One and a half cups of quick oats
One and a half cups of brown sugar
One and a half cups of cold salted butter
Mix it well with your hands
Pour over top of your apples and press it down a bit
Bake for about 60 minutes or until the apple and blueberry mixture underneath has boiled through on the sides and if you stick a fork in there is no resistance

Let it cool for a bit and serve with some ice cream or whip cream
This desert feels nurturing and delicious in every way :)

Fall Field Trip

Hello ~ How are you? It is mid January and here there is STILL SNOW which is pretty much unheard of in these parts. Many of the roads have had thick ice covering them for a while and the sun shines in my window every day. It is so cold outside but so beautiful. My two year old was up with his first flue last night. It was pretty horrible. My house is a construction zone both upstairs and down. Today my house was filled with exhaust from 8am till about 7pm from a loud saw motor. It is starting to get me down. So tonight I thought I'd share some pictures with you from a little family field trip we took in the fall.  My husband, children and my two middle children's teacher all went. Their teacher planned the field trip. It was amazing. We drove out to a tiny, almost forgotten town, in our province that used to be such an important town. I felt myself trying to hold onto that for a moment...everything can change so quickly. When all the adventurers and explorers and workers filled that town living along the river in tents, I doubt they could imagine that one day it would be almost a ghost town. A town that you have to slow down on the highway to drive through but even with the slowing down you only take seconds to pass through it.
The train goes right through the middle of the town. We were at their museum and it thundered right beside us quite often. Anyway I wont write much else because I have had little sleep and I cant think well but I hope you enjoy the pictures and get a good idea of what we did while we were there. Have a lovely rest of your weekend.
