It was November and at the time Walmart was in a corner section of a mall. It was not all that big and only had one entrance. As I was walking in I saw a lady that I knew quite well and with her was a young girl that was very pregnant. They had a shopping cart, or maybe two, loaded with a box that contained a crib and all sorts of other baby supplies. I stopped and said hi and the lady introduced me to her newest foster daughter who was due to have a baby very soon. I smiled at her and said hi and after that we went on our way. That sweet girl gave birth to a little girl on December 4th, 2004. When she got home from the hospital I remember going and buying (from Walmart) a little sleeper for the baby. I went over and brought the sleeper and a card. My hair was really short and I was going through cancer treatment at the time. Little did I know that at that moment in Walmart that baby in that girl's womb was to become my daughter. In some ways I saw my daughter for the very first time in Walmart! How's that for a Walmart moment?!
Tomorrow she turns thirteen. Time has crawled by sometimes and sometimes flown. Adoption is far from easy and parenting is the same. It is such a journey of the heart. A journey that at times breaks you wide open and always gives you opportunity to grow and mature and give.
I am ever thankful for that November day years ago and I am so thankful for my oldest daughter. She is a precious gift to treasure all my days. It is amazing to think I will have a thirteen year old. As I enter this time of parenting my first teenager I pray for grace and wisdom.
Have a wonderful week,
Love Tansy
