Another Poem By Grandma

Home made hand made quilts by my grandmother ~ such works of art!!

When Grandma passed away and we had her memorial we could not just put out some flowers and say pretty words. We had to show case the glory of her talent. And so at her memorial we hung up her quilts along the walls, and draped dresses she had made on tables and touches of her beauty were everywhere and everywhere was bathed in color.  Here is a poem she wrote about quilts (of which she made many)

The Homemade Quilt

You can work a bit of magic
By cutting little shapes
Of colored bits of cotton
For a quilt you plan to make.

The fabric should be smoothed and pressed
With pleasing colors chosen
To make a quilt that brings delight
When winter ponds are frozen.

As each new block is added on
You'll see the patterns growing,
Contrasting colors blending in
With stars and borders showing.

And as you put the stitches in
Don't count the time it's taking.
Remember it's a gift of love
With pleasure in the making.

I end with the quilt she made just for me. Each one was made with so much love, precision and creativity. What treasures to pass on ~ I miss her.

  1. Thanks tansy. This one made me cry. I miss her so much and am sad my baby girl won't get to meet or know her. She was a one of a kind woman and I hope to be like her. She was truly a gift.
