A Little Conversation

A random conversation with my nine year old.

(son) Mom, PLEEEEEEAAAAASSSSSE can I get a cat?

(me) This is the thing hon...pets mean responsibility and work. There are litter boxes to clean and water to change and some days you just wont want to do it so you wont. That means I will have to do it and I dont want to.

(son) Mom (in a voice FILLED with shock) I am an animal LOVER. I would NEVER not feed my cat and I would always change the litter box. Well actually mom lets make a deal. You clean the litter box for two months and I will for three.

(me) NO deal hon, none at all. I am NOT cleaning out a litter box right now. I am scraping poo out of the carpet as it is because of your little brother. I just am not adding any more poo to my life at the moment,

(son) But MOM I PROMISE I will be a good pet owner. You know how I do forward rolls on the couches all the time?

(me) Yes I do.

(son) Well it is not like I LOVE doing foward rolls but I know they are good for me so I practice them faithfully.

(me) Okay that is great hon what is your point?

(son) Well I think that proves I would be a good pet owner.

(me) Really hon? Somehow I am not following you here.

(son) Actually no I think actually that is not a good example but do you see where I am going with this?

(me) Not really love.

(son) Mom I just am going to keep asking!

(me) Honey we are moving in a couple days and your birthday is not for a month.
I am going to say a firm NO there is no cat being welcomed into our home for at least a month.
So do NOT bring up a cat to me again for a couple weeks okay.

(son) Okay mom I think I can handle that.
Mom I am really thinking about Pokemon Go again and wishing I could get it. I know we dont have data and you dont have a phone.....but I am REALLY thinking about it. And mom wouldnt it be cute if they gave all the pokemon characters Santa Hat for Christmas!!!!

And the day continues.

The weather has drastically changed here. The rain has stopped, the sun is out, the wind is whipping the branches of the trees and it is so cold. We do not have snow we do not have ice but we are so cold. The blue sky is brilliant and the snow capped mountains glitter. I love it! However this weather might make moving a bit more challenging as it is supposed to snow. We are going to hope for the best and just go with it.

And secretly I would love a cat again. I miss the cats we had on our farm. Their names were Wednesday and Charley and they were so loving. There is something about a pet's love that is so fulfilling in a very special way. However I stand firm in that right now I am at my limit of work....so no new pets! At least not until January!
