The Victory Garden of 2020

2020 is the year of Covid 19 AND the year of the rebirth of the Victory Garden. When I asked my husband if we could have a victory garden I didn't realize other people would remember that phrase (coined during the World Wars) as well! There were thousands of victory gardens planted all over the world this year. These gardens ultimately represented the simplest form of health and life possible. When you grow your own food you are taking control of a vital aspect of your health!

We had a prolific cucumber crop. No matter how big they are they are sweet and refreshing. We have been giving them away with a bit of desperation but so far no cucumber has been wasted.

The Swiss Chard and Kale have had many munchy crunchy visitors

We were pleasantly surprised with our herb garden success! They are hanging from our ceiling as I write ~ drying for the winter months.

This was our first attempt at celery and it did so well!

We have some very small very chewed cabbages but we still have some :)

The beets are so rich in color.

There's an onion in there!

Our victory garden was a success to me. Yes slugs and snails and many other busy creatures had their way with it, and we were gone during some of the harvest time, but our harvest was a beautiful one and we were so happy with it! Something that was NOT a success was our carrotts ~ one came up ~ and our zucchini. We are hoping for watermelons still. This garden made our home coming that much more special. One of the deep joys of 2020.

Here's To A Year And A Half With You

You sweet soul ~ so aptly named.

Your very essence is promise

Your heart is innocence and sweetness and yet fierce

You are so loved

My Heart in Picture Form

In my heart I have always wished to feel connected in a different way than I did to certain people in my life. In this lifetime it is looking like that type of connection is not going to come about. I don't actually have a lot of words around it all because it is something that is more about feeling. However I do have these pictures that I took one evening at the beginning of the dim and to me they express how I wish life looked for us all

An Evening Camping

Wood smoke as the sun sets

Gentle glimmers of the last rays of light

Filter through thin branches and needles

Over hanging moss and through the smoke

Peaceful sweet breezes and buzzing mosquitoes

Crackling fire and high pitched children's voices

We are all growing in various ways

Taller towards the sun

Clearer in eyes and hearts

Souls fed from all of this

The life we live now

Is exhausting

Rampant anxiety and never ending pressure

These moments remind us of our purpose

To nourish our souls in nature's beauty

To rest by a warm crackling fire

To fill eyes full of rich wildflower colors

To collect rocks, carve up sticks, gather pinecones,

Jump in fresh water and feel warm and free in the sun

To be together

To feel peace
