A Smokey Day

Good day ~

It is Tuesday and the air is filled with smoke here. I can not see the mountains. There is a raging fire miles away but the smoke has drifted here and it is a reminder to me how much my Province has suffered this summer from wild fires, and that there are many people suffering right now!

How is your summer progressing? It is August first today! August first of 2017!
This last weekend I drove out to another town to visit a dear friend. We were both so tired (we both have children and are full time moms) but we did something special. We went to an art gallery and saw some of Monet's original paintings. They were beautiful in their ornate golden frames. I honestly can't quite express how nice it was for me to get out and to go somewhere and see something new and learn something. I felt so different for a small bit of time. There were many people to observe as well in their unique styles of expression, the sun was shining, and Monet loved flowers and gardens and he created one that was so magnificent it still lives on.

Monet did all sorts of radical things for art but the one that stood out to me was that he was one of the original artists who started to bring their easels outside. He painted right in the beauty. Before this people had had to first sketch their picture and then take it in to paint it. He also was all about capturing the light and getting it onto his page. Some of his pictures looked so hastily done, because they were, as he desperately tried to capture the scene before the light changed. I loved how when I looked at one of the pictures straight on I couldn't really see anything but color. I walked away from the picture and happened to glance back and really saw the shape the picture was. It was a willow tree in glorious color looking windswept and dark and sombre. It was stunning.

This trip helped me get some perspective and remember that sometimes stepping away and looking back can make a big difference!

So I was glad I could do that.

This month my husband is taking some time off. Usually he is home on Saturdays and Sundays and gone a majority of the day Monday to Friday. On weekends he is so tired he spends a lot of time sleeping and the other parts of it restless. I hope that this time off can be nurturing for all of us. That happening will largely rest on me. So I guess I am going to try to be more giving and also aware of everyone's needs and I hope this August will be a happy one we can look back on. So much rests on a mother. So much.

God bless you xo
