Shine

Sparkling eyes they shine

Life brimming forth so full of joy

So much innocence and unknowns

She brings me small handfuls of flowers

I put them in tiny vases

And enjoy their simple beauty

When dandylions are full of magic

When you can run and run all day

When the sun is full of kisses

She still wants to be snuggled in my arms

Oh to be four

To be Alex the Saver

And dress up in brother's clothes for the day

Legs covered in bandaids

Ice cream all over your face

A precious time 

That holds so much promise

So much life I can call forth

I can gently lead

Showing her where to step and where to tread lightly

Where to look away and where to allow her eyes to shine

Who's hand is safe to hold

You are not automatically able to swim with goggles on

You are brave, you are strong, you are kind

You still think you'll marry daddy when you grow up

You climb and run and cry with unchecked passion

You cut your curls under your bed with scissors and a bar of chocolate

Your sparkling eyes ~ they shine
